Discover the urban jungle of western Germany!
A little-known, unconventional but well-formed metropolis of 10 million stretches from the Rhineland to the Ruhr Area. Multi-faceted, eccentric, creative: we are forming a banana-shaped republic with hazy boundaries and so invite the pioneers free spirited to come join us.

Raw concrete and daisy chains, city activists and locals brimming with ideas, great festivals and small galleries, incompleteness and abundant good taste – #urbanana celebrates undiscovered spaces for expeditions free of hype. #urbanana is the forerunner of the renaissance of the western Germany. #urbanana is megalomanic and completely modest.

We home in on curiosity and zoom from Cologne, Düsseldorf and the Ruhr beyond the neighbours and into the streets and backyards until we, urban wanderers, are knocking courageously at the doors of the movers and shakers, collectors and hunters, sisters in spirit and perhaps even friends.

A project of Düsseldorf  Tourismus GmbH, KölnTourismus GmbH, Ruhr Tourismus GmbH, and Tourismus NRW e.V. within the EFRE funding-period 2016/2019. Project volume: 1,2 m. €.

The project initially named “North Rhine-Westphalia as a destination for urban lifestyle and scenes”, short: #urbanana, focuses on the touristic valoristaion of the creative scenes in Cologne, Düsseldorf and the Ruhr area and to support the growing, creative-oriented city tourism.

Our ambition is not only about bringing together the clusters of tourism experts and the creative scenes but also and especially to support, promote and communicate fantastic ideas, projects, visions and places of creativity. Dealing step by step with design, young art scene and urban art, city festivals, fashion, futurism and technology and local music scenes in a three year project with an budget of 1.2 m. € we try to connect to relevant media outlets and to develop travel content and stories and to promote the destination North Rhine-Westfalia also on an international level in respect of its vibrant and flourishing scene of creativity, lifestyle and innovation.

To provide a bit more ‘hard evidence’ of what is already realized up to now, a short list of some subprojects:
